HUG A BUNCH
What you need: Nothing
Where you play: Outside in an open space
How to play: Make a circle with the children. To start the game, someone has to
get in the middle of the circle, and yell “ hug a bunch of (a number).” Whatever the number is, the kids have to get into groups of that number and hug. Whoever was not able to get into a group is out of the game.
HULA-HOOP GOLF
What you need: Hula-Hoops, and something used in place of a golf-ball.
Where you play: In an open space outside.
How to play: You set up a golf course with the hula-hoops. The
children take their “golf balls” and try to make in the holes in a certain number of shots. Play the game just like golf, and keep score.
WATER SABATOGE
What you need: igloo full of water, and cups
Where to play: On a flat grassy area
How to play: Gather the kids in an area. Give them each one full cup of water.
The object then, is to go around and try to knock the cups out of their peers hands w/out getting it knocked out of their own. The last person left with water in their cup, wins.
SPUD
What you need: 1 ball
Where you play: Outside, with enough space for running.
How to play: Have all the kids line-up on a line. Give one the child the ball. That child will bounce the ball in the air. At that time, all of the children run in the opposite direction of the ball. The child who bounced the ball will call out a name. The child’s who’s name was called has to get the ball as fast as they can, and yell out “SPUD.” At that time, all the children have to stop. The camper with the ball tries to roll the ball at a child. If they hit that child, that camper is out. A new child is then chosen to bounce the ball.
SHADOW TAG/SHADOW MIME
What you need: Nothing
Where to play: Outside in an open space
How to play: Instead of tagging a child with your hands, you tag their
shadow with your own.
DICE GAME
What you need: Six boxes, and category ideas
Where to play: Outside in an open space
How to play: Label the boxes like dice. On each side of the “dice” write a category of some kind (animals, cars, sports, etc...). Split the kids into groups. Have the kids roll the dice. They have 5 minutes to make up a game with the categories that come up.
STREETS AND ALLEYS
What you need: Nothing
Where to play: Outside in an open space.
How to play: Choose one child to be the “mouse,” and one child tobe the
“cat.” The rest of the children need to get into at least three lines. The children must stand arms length apart from each other from both sides, and from the front and back. They must continue stand with their arms out-stretched. The “cat” must chase the “mouse”up and down the open pathways of children.
MEGA BOX RACE
What you need: 1 large tarp covered in mineral oil. Refridgerator boxes
Where you play: Large open space
How to play: Split the kids into teams (2-4 teams). Each team gets a
refrigerator box (to decorate first). The other half of the team goes on one side of the tarp, and the other half on the opposite side. The game is like a relay. One child from each team gets under the refrigerator box and tries to run across the tarp to where the other half their team is. (During this time, they will be crashing into each other).
STEAL THE CUPS
What you need: cups
Where you play: Open space
How to play: Make four teams. Put them into the four corners of the room. Place
15 cups in the center of the room. Give the kids in the group numbers. A chosen person calls out a number and the person that has that number, has to get that amount of cups from the center of the room, and bring them to their corner. You have to watch out for the cups you bring back to your side because the other teams can take your cups. The first team back with their cups, wins.
BASKETBALL SOCCER
What you need: Ball
Where to play: Basketball court
How to play: First get the same amount of X’s & O’s on the court. These
players can be rotated out w/ the goal-keepers. When the game starts, the children can throw the ball to their team players, but they can’t move. The players try to make it in the basket. Their goal is the opposite of their goalkeepers. Once the ball touches the ground, the game then turns into a regular soccer game. The ball can’t be picked up, it needs kicked in the air. Once the ball is caught, the kids then have to stop where they are, and it becomes non-moving basketball again.
